Anti-government demonstrators and security forces clashed in Tripoli on Wednesday evening, during a protest against the deteriorating economic situation in Lebanon's second-largest city.
Footage shows security forces at Nour Square, where two days ago a protester died during demonstrations decrying the soaring unemployment and the local currency depreciation. The death of the protester inflamed... Еще tensions, according to the Humans Right Watch.
Security forces were reported using rubber bullets against the crowd, while the demonstrators burned containers and tires and threw firecrackers against security forces.
Protests broke out in October against government corruption, as Lebanon was facing its worst economic crisis in decades, with soaring unemployment and the local currency losing value against the dollar. The lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak has piled further pressure on the struggling Lebanese economy, prompting fresh protests.
