Latvian capital Riga’s streets and shops were nearly empty on Wednesday as tough measures were put in place in a bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
A state of emergency has been declared in the country until April 14. The measure will temporarily suspend all international passenger transportation to the country.

According to the latest reports by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), at least 194,000 people have been infected by the COVID-19 worldwide and over 7,800 people have died. There have been 61 confirmed cases in Latvia.
