Latvia: Poland, Latvia deem Nord Stream-2 'contrary to EU energy principles'

Polish President Andrzej Duda met with his Latvian counterpart Raimonds Vejonis in Riga where they discussed energy issues in talks on Wednesday. Duda said that Poland and Latvia «care about security» in the region, adding that «support of our allies is also important to us» expressing his gratitude to Canada and the US in this respect. On his end, Vejonis said: «Without a doubt, Latvia and... Еще Poland have similar views on the Nord Stream-2.» He urged EU to discuss the project «much more actively» and «get a common opinion,» since the project will «contribute to the European Union's dependence on one gas supplier». «It is contrary to the energy principles of the European Union,» Vejonis concluded. The Polish President is paying an official visit to Latvia on June 26-28. Political relations and security are reportedly planned as the main subjects of the talks in Riga.
