Kyrgyzstan: Don’t ‘shoot your own people’ warns ex-President Atambayev after botched raid

Kyrgyzstan’s former President Almazbek Atambayev issued a statement to the country and current authorities after his residence in the village of Koi-Tash was raided by security forces in an attempt to detain him on Wednesday. “Do not shoot your own people. This is all going to end badly for you,” The former Kyrgyzstan president said to law enforcement members, who, according to Atambayev, used... Еще ‘laser-guided combat weapons’ during the raid. “We are not terrorists, neither me nor the civil people, who gathered near the house today,” Atambayev said. Earlier on Wednesday, the former president's spokesperson was quoted by TASS as saying that at least ten people were injured in the raid and that the police have taken Atambayev to an unknown location. The reports were later denied by local lawmaker Irina Karamushkina, who stated that the ex-leader is still holed up in his house. Local media reports said 36 were injured in the raid, with 15 law enforcement members among them, and Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Health said two people were taken to hospital after suffering injuries from rubber bullets during the ex-president's attempted arrest. Atambayev's immunity as the former leader of the country was revoked by the Kyrgyz parliament in June, as he faces corruption charges. NO ACCESS TO KYRGYZSTAN MEDIA no access to kyrgyzstan media
