Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said there were «close» and «coinciding» positions between Russia and Kuwait at a press conference in Kuwait City, Monday, after a meeting with Emir of Kuwait Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Prime Minister of Kuwait Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. «In terms of international affairs, we have very close positions, I would even say that there are coinciding... Еще positions on the principal issues that remain in this region. This applies to Syria, Libya, Yemen, the situation around Qatar, which our Kuwaiti partners seek to establish an active cooperation. We are actively ready to promote this in those forms that will be deemed acceptable by all parties», Lavrov said. Speaking to the press, Lavrov also pointed out that the trade turnover in Russia «grew by 14% last year, and for the first months of the first half of this year, it grew by 43%. These rates indicate that we will soon reach the level of half a billion dollars and this is far from the limit». The Russian foreign minister expressed his concern over Palestine, saying that both Russia and Kuwait believe the issue requires «increased attention» and has been «pushed to the background». He went on to say that the UN Security Council will benefit from having Kuwait joining as a non-permanent member in January 2018. Lavrov's visit to Kuwait marks the start of a diplomatic tour of the Gulf Arab states. The foreign minister will also travel to the UAE and Qatar in an effort to ease tensions during the Gulf crisis.
