Kenya: Police launch tear gas at stone-throwing protesters as voting starts

Security forces operating in Nairobi's Kibera neighbourhood used tear gas against opposition supporters who were seen throwing stones, Thursday. The protesters were demonstrating against the country's re-run presidential election. Opposition leader Raila Odinga is boycotting the elections, saying they will not be free and fair. He also withdrew from Kenya's upcoming vote after claiming that the... Еще electoral commission had not taken measures necessary to ensure a fair election for the second round. The original election in August was nullified by the Supreme Court following protests and a legal challenge over alleged vote-rigging in favour of current president Uhuru Kenyatta. After initially calling for protests during polling day, Odinga has since encouraged voters to stay at home and boycott the vote.
