Kazakhstan: Russia not to sign Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons — Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Russia would not sign the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, speaking in an interview in Astana, Friday. According to the minister, «the prohibition of nuclear weapons in such a directive manner is unrealistic.» He underlined that «the five official nuclear powers, as well as the unofficial nuclear powers will not do so because... Еще they already agreed that the principles of progress towards a nuclear-free world are reflected in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).» Commenting of the presence of US coalition armed forces in Syria, Lavrov underlined that Russia condemned the «illegitimate presence of the armed forces on Syrian territory.» «The American coalition, in terms of international law and the UN Charter, is illegitimate, but we are realistic and understand that we would rather not fight them,» stated the Russian minister. Lavrov participated in the International Meeting in Astana on Friday alongside Turkey and Iran.
