Jordan: Thousands celebrate tax bill repeal in Amman

Thousands took to the streets of Jordan's capital Amman the sixth consecutive evening on Thursday night, this time not to protest but to celebrate the overturn of a controversial tax bill which had seen unprecedented protests breaking out in Jordan nation-wide. Protesters chanted and clapped as they gathered in Shmeisani Circle and marched on 4th Circle close to cabinet office as law enforcement... Еще officers kept close watch. Omar Razzaz, who took office as Prime Minister after the Monday resignation of Hani Mulki, announced the withdrawal of the tax bill and promised its re-examination through national dialogue. Backed by International Monetary Fund (IMF), the initial tax hikes caused an outcry as protesters felt it unjustly targeted lower and middle income earners.
