Japanese shoppers braved the rain and waited in massive queues to get a glimpse of the interior of Uniqlo's new flagship store that opened in Tokyo's upscale Ginza shopping district on Friday.
The opening of the clothing store coincided with the release of Uniqlo's 'Airism' masks made out of the same material as a range of light summer underwear. The popularity of the mask had already crashed the company's website on Friday morning.
The mask has a three-layer structure that uses functional underwear fabric for summer and Uniqlo's own «Airism» fabric. The masks also have a function that blocks ultraviolet rays and use a filter to prevent the entry of pollen and the spread of bacteria.
A pack of three washable masks costs ¥990 (€8.27, $9.27), and will be sold at stores nationwide as well as online. The company produces 500,000 packs a week and has big plans to export the product overseas.
