Japan: Pence slams North Korea ‘tyranny’ at US airbase in Fussa

US Vice-President Mike Pence addressed American military personnel at the Yokota Air Base in Fussa on Wednesday as he continues his tour of the US’s east-Asian allies. Pence criticised the North Korean regime, saying it «tyrannises their citizens even more and threatens violence across the region in a wider war.» According to him, Pyongyang has threatened Japan, the US and other allies in the... Еще region, as well as «supported international terrorism for the past two decades — it has devoted essentially every available resources as well to the development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.» Pence underlined that the US «will continue to strive to peacefully dismantle North Korea's nuclear programme and alleviate the suffering of its people”, as well as continue to act with vigilance and resolve.” He expressed his support for South Korea, saying that the US «stands strong with the proud and free people of South Korea and we always will.» The Vice-President is also set to meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in when he visits Seoul on Thursday before attending the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics the following day. Ahead of the trip, Pence warned against North Korea’s use of the Olympics to promote its regime with a rare foray into international diplomacy.
