Japan: Ousted Nissan Chairman Ghosn arrives at court to challenge detention

Nissan Motor Co Ltd's former Chairman Carlos Ghosn arrived at the Tokyo District Court, Tuesday, defending himself in his first public appearance since allegations led to his ouster from the company in November 2018. Footage shows the head of his legal team, Motonari Otsuru, arriving outside the court, where a media circus awaited him. Ghosn entered the court through a back entrance. Ghosn... Еще stands accused of cooking the books and has been charged with under-reporting his income. He has strenuously denied the allegations. His accusers allege he transferred huge personal losses onto the company's books. Since his arrest, he has been re-charged twice on separate charges, a peculiarity of Japanese law, which allows authorities to detain suspects for extended periods without much judicial oversight. His son claims that the incarceration has led to him losing over 10kg (22lbs). The court appearance came at his lawyers' request, seeking reason for his detention and to plead a case of innocence.
