Tokyo unveiled the names of the mascots of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the Japanese public in the Japanese capital, on Sunday. Hundreds of children and adults joined meet and greet events across the Japanese capital to welcome the new ambassadors of the Tokyo 2020 Games. The mascots, chosen by a vote from schoolchildren across Japan, were announced to the world in February but... Еще had not been named until this event. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic mascot is named Miraitowa, based on a combination of the Japanese words Mirai (future) and Towa (eternity). The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic mascot is named Someity, (pronounced soh-may-tee), which derives from the word Someiyoshino, a popular cherry blossom variety, and additionally the name echoes the English phrase 'so mighty.' The 2020 Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, while the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games are scheduled from 25 August to 6 September 2020.
