Japan: Govt. to lift evac order on town devastated by Fukushima disaster

The Japanese government is set to partially lift an evacuation order on the town of Okuma, which was devastated by the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011, as shown in footage filmed on Wednesday. In May, residents will be permitted to return to around 40 percent of the town located some 7km (4mi) from the power plant which suffered a catastrophic meltdown eight years ago due to an earthquake and... Еще the subsequent tsunami. However, decontamination efforts are still ongoing and it is unlikely Okuma's population of 10,700 will fully return. Plans are in place to turn the town's seaside area into a nature reserve, despite it once being densely populated.
