Japan: Abe joins memorial for anniversary of Hiroshima bombing

Representatives from some 80 countries and international unions commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Sunday, alongside over 50,000 spectators in the city’s Memorial Peace Park. Among the guests to join Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were representatives from Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan, who were taking part in the ceremony for the first time, as well as envoys... Еще from recognised nuclear powers such as the UK and Russia. The 1945 bombing of Hiroshima marked the first ever use of nuclear weapons during warfare and spelled the final days of World War II. It is estimated that the bombing on August 6 and its subsequent fallout cost over 140,000 lives, while additional atomic raids on Nagasaki are thought to have killed a further 70,000 people.
