Italy: Venetians form flotilla on the Giudecca Canal in protest at prevalence of cruise ships

Hundreds of activists in boats and ashore gathered on Giudecca Canal, Venice, on Sunday protesting against large cruise ships arriving in the city. Protesters set flares and succeeded to block the canal from the entering of cruise ships. One of the activists, Tommaso Cacciari stated that ships damaged the environment, as for example «one cruise ship pollutes as 14.000 cars».
