For a second day tensions ran high in the Rome suburb of Casal Bruciato, where on Wednesday anti-fascists and far-right protesters held opposing rallies after a Roma family was allocated social housing in the area.
A Roma family with 12 children originally from Bosnia were placed in an apartment run by the city of Rome as part of a city-wide programme relocating Roma families who were previously... Еще living in a camp on the outskirts of the city. This angered several far-right movements, including a neo-fascist party CasaPound.
On Tuesday they assaulted the mother when she was trying to enter the apartment and the family had to be escorted by the police. On Wednesday activists from anti-fascist organisations held a sit-in to protest against the actions of the far-right movements.
Police cordoned off the two sit-ins with a massive deployment of personnel and vehicles. The mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi has visited the family to show her support.
