Italy: Sea-Watch moves port as captain freed by judge

The Sea-Watch 3 migrant rescue ship docked at Licata's port in Sicily on Tuesday as news filtered through that captain Carola Rackete had been freed by an Italian judge. A group of citizens welcomed the ship's arrival with messages of support for the ship's captain. Rackete, a 31-year-old German nation, was detained after refusing to comply with a ban on entering Italy's territorial waters. The... This afternoon a judge said Rackete had not broken the law and she had been carrying out her duty to protect human life. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who leads the far-right party Lega, said in a statement that he had hoped for a tougher response from the Italian justice system and promised to expel Rackete as soon as possible. He has previously accused migrant rescue ships of human trafficking.
