Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini thanked Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for capturing and extraditing Italian fugitive militant Cesare Battisti, when speaking at a press conference in Milan on Sunday. Battisti was arrested in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz on Sunday and is expected to land in Italy in the «coming hours.» During his speech, Salvini called Battisti «a communist... Еще murderer» who «killed in the name of the proletariat and communism.» The Italian interior minister noted that Battisti's arrest and extradition is «only the beginning.» He went on to say that Battisti «is not the only killer who enjoys life around the world,» adding that Italy will «go for them one by one.» One of Battisti's victims, Alberto Torregiani, said that «justice is not yet granted until we see him landing in Italy.» Battisti, who was a member of the Italian far-left radical group Armed Proletarians for Communism (PAC), spent years living in Brazil as a refugee. He went on the run in December 2018 when an arrest warrant was issued for him after the country's outgoing President Michel Temer signed a decree ordering his extradition. Bolsonaro, who took office on January 1, had vowed to capture Battisti and send him back to Italy. The Italian fugitive militant was sentenced to life prison in his native Italy for four murders committed in the 1970s, which he denies committing. He has been sought by Italian authorities since he escaped from prison in 1981.
