Deputy Prime Ministers of Italy Matteo Salvini and Luigi di Maio commented the recent European Commission recommendation for the European Council to start disciplinary procedures against Italy over its debt rules violations, speaking in Rome on Thursday.
«We will tell Europe to reduce the debt by lowering taxes on Italians because it is the only way. It will not be a wall against a wall, it will... Еще be negotiation based on facts, on common sense,» said Salvini.
Luigi di Maio in turn added: «There will be negotiations with the EU but with the strength of a government that has promised a change of pace in Europe and must get it. We are at a paradox in which the recipe is always the same: in December we asked to unlock billions of euros for infrastructure and innovations and they had not agreed, now we are told that we do not invest enough.»
Italy's public debt in 2018 was 132% of GDP with violates EUs 60% limit.
