Italy: Protesters slam Brexit ahead of PM May's speech in Florence

Scores of protesters voiced anti-Brexit chants and held anti-Brexit placards at the Santa Maria Novella church in Florence, on Friday, ahead of British Prime Minister Theresa May‘s Brexit speech. One protester explained his desire for a ‘soft Brexit’, while others condemned Britain’s decision to leave the EU in the first place. A UK protester said he believes that Brexit “is not in the... Еще interests of the majority of the British people,» adding that he believes the UK exiting the EU will be “costly” in the future. During her speech later that day May stated, that regarding maintaining relationships between the UK and the EU, neither the Norway nor Canada models «would be (the) best» option for the future, adding that she believed they [UK] “can do so much better than” that. She said there would be a transitional period post-Brexit and that Britain aimed to maintain its access to EU markets under current conditions.
