Hundreds of protesters marched through Naples on Friday after the regional authorities said they would impose a COVID-19 lockdown due to the rising numbers.
Footage shows demonstrators chanting slogans as they walk. Police reportedly used tear gas against protesters at a separate location in the city.
Campania where Naples is located introduced a night time curfew and closed most of its schools in attempt to slow down the spread of the coronavirus.
The region also called on the whole country to follow its example as Italy has been registering record numbers of new infections with more than 19,000 confirmed cases on Friday alone.
