A protest against evictions took place in Rome on Wednesday, where residents and members of unions rallied to denounce Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini's plan to evict low-income residents from occupied buildings.
Protesters claimed the plan would cause children, women and also migrants to end up in the streets and blamed Salvini and President of Lazio Nicola Zingaretti for depriving... Еще people of housing and jobs.
«Salvini says 'there are migrants, they are invading us, they steal from us', but who lives on the streets know that when he was evicted it was not a migrant to do that. Those who work knows that it's not the migrants to exploit them. Who is homeless knows that it's not the migrants to deny them a house. It's Salvini as well as Zingaretti [Lazio's regional governor] to deny housing, jobs, healthcare, education, we do not see any alternative today», said Cristiano Armati, a housing rights activist in Rome.
«Security is not what the Interior Minister who governs this country say it is. For security he wants to evict people. Security is the right to work and the right to own a home», claimed Michelangelo Giglio, from Asia Usb union.
Wednesday's protest, held in front of the Regional Council of Lazio and joined by families and migrants, proceeded peacefully and was monitored by a heavy police presence.
