Italy: Pro-Lega protest held in Rome in support of Salvini's stance on migration

A pro-Lega flash mob took place on Rome's San Silvestro Square on Thursday, led by Lega senators and voters in support of Interior Minister and Lega leader Matteo Salvini. The participants gathered near the parliament despite the high temperatures to voice their support for Salvini's stance on immigration. The flash mob was organised following criticism of Salvini by leftist parties, and by... Еще media, including Famiglia Cristiana, a magazine mostly read by Catholics. The publication compared Salvini to the Devil on its front cover over his migration policies. For Lega Secretary Francesco Zicchieri, Salvini «is giving dignity back to the Italians,» as well as «to those people who, with the false excuse of a better future, are deported here only for the interest of some cooperatives.» «We must stop all this. We must tell young Africans: we help you at your home, we help you not to emigrate,» Lega senator Simone Pillon said. Salvini has faced criticism in some quarters for his hardline stance on migration, and for his decision to close Italian ports to the migrant rescue ship Aquarius, which was eventually allowed to dock in Spain.
