Clashes erupted between security forces and migrants at the Independence Square in Rome in the early hours of Thursday, as the migrants protested against the eviction of hundreds of people from an occupied building facing the square.
Police deployed water cannons and charged against the rioting migrants, who responded by throwing objects at officers and blocking the nearby streets.
On August... Еще 19 security forces cleared the Palazzo Curtatone building near the Independence Square, which had been occupied by migrants, reportedly mostly from Eritrea and Ethiopia, since October 2013. Around 500 police officers were involved in the evacuation operation.
The local administration has reportedly planned to relocate some of the evicted migrants in eight villas around 60 kilometres (37.2 miles) away from Rome, in the province of Rieti, allowing women, children and disabled to remain in the occupied building.
