A museum in Rome is planning to put on display thousands of African artworks brought to Italy during its colonial conquests in Africa. Parts of the collection that were hosted by the former Colonial Museum in the Italian capital, were shown to RUPTLY on Wednesday.
The items will be exhibited within the Museum of Civilisation (Museo Delle Civilta) in Rome next year. It's director Filippo Maria... Еще Gambardi explained the idea behind the project: «We are not making a museum of Mussolini's colonies. Nor are we celebrating the creator of the so-called Italian Empire because the Colonial Museum was founded before Mussolini. Initially it was aimed at getting Italians to know the worlds that was unknown to them».
After the Colonial Museum was closed in 1970, its collections were held in various institutions in Rome. The name for the new museum is yet to be decided.
