German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte held a joint press conference in Rome on Monday where they praised September's Malta migrant redistribution agreement and Italian-German co-operation.
«The bilateral relations are close but we surely can intensify them, also on the whole breadth of our government work,» stated the Merkel, adding that they must do their... Еще «utmost to maintain a multilateral and rule-based trading system.»
The German chancellor believes the EU had succeeded «in shaping the process of the parting of Britain from the European Union,» aiming for «close and trusting» future relationships.
«We are in the starting phase of the European legislature which strengthens the joint commitment towards European solutions to make our actions more efficient, to collect, address and solve the main challenges that await us,» emphasised Conte
Both commended the temporary redistribution plan for migrants rescued in the central Mediterranean agreed on in September Malta, Italy, Germany, France and Finland but warned a lot of work was still to be done to reach a «fair division of tasks throughout Europe.»
