Italy: Higuain reveals he turned down Chelsea to swap Juve for Milan

Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain and Italy defender Mattia Caldara held a press conference at AC Milan’s Casa following their double transfer from Juventus to the Rossoneri. Higuain revealed that he had held talks with Chelsea, only to reject them for Milan because their manager, Maurizio Sarri, was the ‘only one who wanted’ him in London. “That was the best thing for a footballer — when they... Еще make you feel like they really want you, the motivation and the conviction with which they wanted me,” Higuain said of the Milan hierarchy. Caldara said that he could not wait to ‘prove his worth’ at the club. “When I came, I thought about the history of AC Milan — the strongest defenders have played here, just think of Maldini, Nesta, Thiago Silva,” the 24-year-old said. Milan have signed Higuain on a one-year loan deal worth €18 million ($21 million) with an option to make the switch permanent for a further €36 million ($41 million) next summer. Caldara is moving to AC as a makeweight as former Juve favourite Leonardo Bonucci returns to Turin, with both clubs confirming no money is changing hands. Juventus have also signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid this summer, so it is unlikely they will be pursuing a replacement for Higuain.
