Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte stressed the important role of the G20 in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and its fallout during a pre-recorded speech on Saturday.
Conte said the G20 summit will mark «an important milestone demonstrating the resolve of the G-20 in addressing the global pandemic and its impact on each of our lives.»
The Italian prime minister also pledged to work to «to rapidly recover from the crisis and to find solutions for the major challenges facing humanity today, from climate change to enduring inequalities.»
Italy will chair next year's G20 meeting.
The 15th meeting of Group of Twenty (G20), hosted by Saudi Arabia, is convening virtually on November 21-22 due to the COVID pandemic, and replacing the physical meeting originally planned to take place in Riyadh.
