Italy: Conte says country has to coexist with coronavirus on first visit to Lombardy since outbreak

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte visited the Lombardy region on Monday for the first time since the Coronavirus outbreak began, footage shot in Milan shows. «Now we are undertaking, well, we are trying to undertake phase two. Phase two is about coexisting with the virus. Not the phase of liberation from the virus,» explained the Italian Prime Minister at the press conference, adding that current conditions do not allow for citizens to completely relax and return to normality yet. During the address, Conte also commented on the new measures being implemented at the beginning of May, saying that as some workers return to the workplace, protective measures will have to be put in place on public transport and other public areas. Italy's «phase two» is planned to last until May 18 as the country remains one of the hardest-hit nations worldwide by coronavirus, with over 197,675 reported infections and 26,644 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
