Italy: Conte pushes for political solution in Libya as he meets GNA's Sarraj

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said Italy has no «hidden agenda» and maintained that «the wellbeing and prosperity of the Libyan people» achieved through a political solution is their objective, as he spoke during a press conference alongside Government of National Accord (GNA) chief Fayez al-Sarraj in Rome on Saturday. «We are convinced this (EU) intervention offers the maximum guarantee... Еще to not place the future of the Libyan people at the will of lone actors,» said Conte as he stressed the importance of the European Union's involvement. Sarraj said that a ceasefire in the country would be conditional on a full withdrawal of General Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) forces, but added he did not trust any of the «aggressors' promises». The head of the UN-recognised government in Libya was expected to meet Conte on Wednesday, but cancelled the meeting after he discovered that the Italian leader received Haftar on the same day.
