Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia has “repeatedly communicated suggestions” to start a “serious, honest, and professional dialogue on the INF and START implementation” to the US during his press conference at the 25th OSCE ministerial meeting in Milan on Friday.
Lavrov went on to say that “no response” has been received, adding “they [the Americans] have one answer: ‘you... Еще must correct your mistakes and eliminate the violations that you allow.’ But adults don’t talk like that.”
Russian top diplomat also claimed that the possible US withdrawal from the INF Treaty may “prepare the ground” for the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) “to eventually fall apart.”
Lavrov pointed out that the 9M729 rocket was tested “at a distance allowed under the conditions of the Treaty,” adding “US started to accuse us of violating the INF Treaty without any proof.”
Talking about the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's chief financial officer, Lavrov said “I believe this is one more demonstration of what provokes rejection of overwhelming majority of normal countries, normal people which is applying the national laws outside the country,” adding “this is an arrogant major-country policy which is accepted by no one. It provokes even the closest US allies’ rejection. It’s time for this to be over.”
