Italy: 5-Star Movement supporters gather to protest Italian electoral law

Hundreds of supporters of the 5-Star Movement party rallied outside the Montecitorio government palace in Rome on Wednesday, in protest against a new electoral law being voted on by the Chamber of Deputies inside the building. One 5-Star Movement supporter stated that «I’m here today to defend [our] institutions, to defend our constitution.» The legislature passed the bill by 307 votes to 90... Еще — the first vote of four on the matter. If passed, the new system would facilitate coalition-building prior to elections. This, its opponents fear would harm the electoral chances of the 5-Star Movement which reportedly rejects tie-ups with other parties. Italian national elections are due by May next year.
