Italy: 2 dead after quake hits tourist destination of Ischia

An earthquake struck the Italian island of Ischia off the coast of Naples on Monday evening, killing at least two people, injuring up to 40 others and leaving widespread structural damage, Tuesday. The quake, which measured 4 on the Richter scale, wreaked havoc on the age-old architecture on the island, including a church and a hospital which were damaged. Ischia is a volcanic island around... Еще 30km (19mi) off the Neopolitan coast and is a popular tourist destination, with the likes of German Chancellor Angela Merkel visiting several times since taking office. Thursday 24th August marks the anniversary of last year’s deadly earthquake which struck central Italy, killing nearly 300 people.
