Israel: Women of Tel Aviv say no to asylum seeker deportations

Protesters took to the streets of south Tel Aviv on Friday, to celebrate International Women's Day and protest against the planned deportations of Eritrean and Sudanese asylum-seekers. Demonstrators, including asylum seekers and local residents of the city, marched with flags and placards, while chanting slogans such as: «Refugees and local residents refuse to be enemies» and «Human rights for... Еще everyone». An Eritrean asylum-seeker Helen Kidane marched alongside locals against the deportations and said that together, women «can solve the problems of South Tel Aviv.» For Shula Keshet, an activist from Tel Aviv, «south Tel Aviv residents and asylum seekers» have come to march «against deportation and in favour of a plan to disperse the refugees.» A small group of residents held a counter-protest in favour of the deportations with protesters chanting «Not a refugee or poor person, just an infiltrator».
