Israel: 'We will not accept any violations of airspace' — Netanyahu on downing of Syrian jet

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel's downing of Syrian jet shot down over the Golan Heights in a televised address from Jerusalem on Tuesday. The Israeli Prime Minister called the 2km (1.25 miles) incursion into Israeli aerial space a «gross violation of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement with Syria.» «We will not accept any such penetration or spill-over into our... Еще territory, either on the ground or in the air,» Netanyahu added. In shooting down the Syrian Air Force's Sukhoi jet, Israeli forces had acted «appropriately», he concluded. Netanyahu has repeatedly referred to the '1974 Separation of Forces Agreement with Syria' in recent public pronouncements, as tensions run high between Israeli and war-torn Syria. The agreement signed in 1974 established a non-militarized buffer region between the two countries after the Yom Kippur War. Mandatory credit: Israeli GPO
