Israel: Thousands rally as fears govt. cripples High Court powers mount

Thousands took to the streets of Tel Aviv on Saturday to stage an anti-corruption demo condemning draft laws that would limit the powers of Israel's Supreme Court. Protesters chanted slogans against Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu as they held banners and marched down the streets. «[The laws and regulations] Netanyahu is trying to pass [are here] to make this country a 'Netanyahu... Еще' state,» a protester said. If passed, the new legislation will limit the Supreme Court's power to override the Knesset in approving laws and legislation in the event they have been deemed unconstitutional.
