Thousands of protesters gathered in Tel Aviv on Monday to draw attention to violence against women, a trend thought to have worsened during the coronavirus pandemic that has altered public and private life and kept many indoors for prolonged periods.
According to reports and protest organizers, the Israeli government had approved funds in 2017 to address domestic violence more systematically, but the purported $71 million (64 million Euro) has not yet been released.
«We came to make our voice heard and to demand our rights. There is a budget for the fight against domestic violence that was approved in 2017 but from some reason the money didn't pass. I guess we are not the highest priority,» said Dror Sadot, who participated in the demonstration.
Eleven women have been killed in Israel domestic violence incidents since the beginning of the year, reports say.
