Israel: Massive concrete wall rises near border with Lebanon

*MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE* The construction of an Israeli nine-metre (30 ft) high wall along the northern border with Lebanon is underway, as seen in footage from near Rosh Hanikra on Wednesday. According to Israeli military officials, the barrier will stretch from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the area around Mount Hermon in the east. So far, Israel has built 11 kilometres (7 miles) of... Еще the wall, aiming to extend it to 130-kilometres (80 miles). The wall will reportedly be equipped with steel mesh, surveillance cameras, and sensors. «This obstacle basically relates to the intentions, the spoken intentions, the threats made public by Hezbollah since 2011, to infiltrate into Israel and to attack Israeli communities south of the blue line,» said Tomer Gilad, Israel's liaison officer with UNIFIL. Lebanon has repeatedly slammed the operation calling it an intrusion of its territory and an act of aggression, accusing Israel of threatening border stability. However, Israeli officials stated that the wall runs entirely on its side of the UN-recognised border. «This obstacle is being constructed south of the Blue Line inside Israeli territory,» Gilad said, denying the allegations.
