White House advisor and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, called the recent agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates
on establishing diplomatic relations a «historic breakthrough» and said that the «stage is set» for more progress in the region. Kushner was speaking during a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, in Jerusalem on Sunday.
«Today obviously we celebrate a historic breakthrough for peace, and it has been a long and winding road to get here,» said the White House advisor, before adding that Trump «has built a strong foundation for an even greater progress to be made.»
«While this agreement was thought by many to be impossible, the stage is now set for even more,» continuer Kushner.
Netanyahu said he was «thrilled» by «the swift pace of the normalisation between Israel and the UAE.»
«Yesterday the Emirates officially abolished the anachronistic boycott of the Jewish State, and this opens a door for economical unbridled trade, tourism, investments, exchanges between the Middle East's two most advanced economies,» said the Israeli prime minister.
Kushner's speech came a day before he is expected to join a senior Israeli delegation on the first commercial flight from Israel to the UAE.
