Israel and Palestine Director of Human Rights Watch Omar Shakir was filmed at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Monday, before he boarded a plane to Sweden to be deported by Israeli authorities over his alleged support of a boycott of Israel.
Shakir promised to continue defending Israeli and Palestinian human rights after his deportation as he spoke addressing his colleagues and supporters before... Еще heading to the departure gate.
«The world sees this as an attack on the human rights movement. It has also shone a light on the work that we do, which is to point out the systematic rights abuse that are characteristic of Israel's more than half century long occupation. I will continue to do that work. I will continue to work every day for human rights in Israel and Palestine,» Shakir said.
Shakir is being deported by the Israeli authorities over his alleged support of a boycott of Israel, about a year and a half after deportation proceedings against him began.
The case is the first legal challenge to the use of an amendment to the Law of Entry, that allows the Israeli Interior Ministry to deny entry into Israel to anyone publicly calling for the boycott of Israel.
