Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of attempting to infiltrate Israel from Lebanon, speaking in Tel Aviv on Monday, which lead to a confrontation on the Shebaa farms on the Lebanon-Israeli border earlier in the day. Netanyahu said Hezbollah was «playing with fire» and threatened that any attack on Israel would be «met with great strength.»
«Israel will continue to take action against Iran's efforts to entrench itself militarily in our region. [Hezbollah's leader Hassan] Nasrallah is embroiling Lebanon because of Iran. Today, a Hezbollah cell infiltrated into Israeli territory. Thanks to the successful operational deployment of forces on the ground by its commanders, IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) thwarted this attempt. We view the effort to infiltrate into our territory with utmost gravity,» said Netanyahu.
«Hezbollah needs to understand that it is playing with fire. Any attack against us will be met with great strength. Nasrallah already made a major mistake in underestimating Israel's determination to defend itself and Lebanon paid a heavy price for this. I suggest that he not repeat this mistake,» he added.
Earlier in the day, the IDF said a Hezbollah cell had crossed the border along the Shabaa farms. Hezbollah insisted the claims are fabricated. No casualties have been reported.
