Israel: 'Family March' counters Haifa's Gay Pride

A march in defence of family values took place in Haifa on Thursday, just one day before the country's third largest city hosts the rainbow parade of Gay Pride. Both religious and secular residents joined the 'Family March', with many carrying banners and waving Israeli flags. Organisers called the march to stress the importance of traditional family values. Those attending raised perceived... Еще threats to the nuclear family from the country's so-called gay lobby. They contest the rights of LGBT couples to raise a family. One demonstrator explained: «We want to emphasise the importance of the family and that children have the right to have a father and a mother to grow with and to be happy with.» A Christian marcher said her faith told her that a family was a «husband and a wife». Others expressed discontent and claimed the event was a show of intolerance: «I'm ashamed that in my country there is a whole parade that is dedicated to hate and intolerance and to inacceptance of people who want to have different kinds of families.» Event organisers, who reportedly distributed homophobic flyers to the public, claimed the event received massive support.
