Israel: 'Bring back our brothers' — African migrants decry Israel's detention of asylum-seekers

Hundreds of African migrants marched from the Holot detention centre to the Saharonim Prison in Israel’s southern Negev region on Thursday, after seven Eritreans who refused deportation were imprisoned. The protesters said they were on hunger strike and would not eat until the seven aslyum-seekers were set free. They chanted slogans as they marched: «We are not criminals; we are refugees» and... Еще «Bring back our brothers», and raised their arms in the air as if they were chained. «The Israeli government forced us to go to prison for an unlimited time, so we protest that. We kindly request the state of Israel grant us asylum,» said one protester, Muluebrhn Cthebrihiwet. Around 700 of the asylum-seekers currently being held at the Holot centre started a hunger strike on Tuesday after the seven asylum-seekers were detained. Seven asylum-seekers from Eritrea refused to be sent back to Rwanda as part of a «voluntary» deportation issued by the Israeli government.
