Iraq: Tents ready to house thousands of displaced persons as battle for Tal Afar gets underway

Еще with tents for the displaced people.» The Iraqi Ministry of Displacement and Migration (IDD) erected about 40 tents in the village of al-Sharae, west of Tal Afar, Sunday, to receive the displaced persons expected to arrive as a result of the military operations in the area. The ministry has also equipped new centres in Badosh, Tal al-Zalat, and the vicinity of the local airport to shelter incoming displaced families. Arriving families will be receiving a «food baskets and a container of cold water,» according to the IDD's Mahmoud Aziz Mohamed. In a televised address on Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the launching of a ground offensive to retake the city of Tal Afar from the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), which has been in control of the city since 2014. More than 100,000 people are expected to leave Tal Afar in light of the ongoing military operation.
