The Iraqi Ministry of Displacement and Migration (IDD) erected about 40 tents in the village of al-Sharae, west of Tal Afar, Sunday, to receive the displaced persons expected to arrive as a result of the military operations in the area.
The ministry has also equipped new centres in Badosh, Tal al-Zalat, and the vicinity of the local airport to shelter incoming displaced families.
Arriving families will be receiving a «food baskets and a container of cold water,» according to the IDD's Mahmoud Aziz Mohamed.
In a televised address on Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the launching of a ground offensive to retake the city of Tal Afar from the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), which has been in control of the city since 2014.
More than 100,000 people are expected to leave Tal Afar in light of the ongoing military operation.
