Iraq: Protesters block central Baghdad with burning barricades

Iraqi protesters blocked Khulani Square in central Baghdad by burning tyres, as part of a civil disobedience movement on Sunday. On the 10th consecutive day of renewed anti-government protests, demonstrators cut roads and disrupted traffic, with plumes of black smoke rising from barricades. The rallies are part of a movement that sprung up in early October over corruption, unemployment and lack... Еще of basic services. However, demonstrations were suspended after the security forces started using live ammunition, reportedly killing nearly 150 people. On Thursday, Iraqi President Barham Salih promised to call for early elections in a televised address, saying that legitimacy comes from the people and that it has no substitute.
