Iraq: Iranian FM Zarif visits memorial to Soleimani near Baghdad airport

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited a memorial dedicated to Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, near Baghdad Airport, where Soleimani was died in a US attack in January, on Sunday. The memorial was erected near Baghdad airport close to the location to where Soleimani was killed alongside Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy leader of Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) by US airstrikes. Zarif paid his respects alongside Iraqi officials including Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, on his first visit to the country since the Iranian general's death at the start of the year. Soleimani, who was the leader of the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, was targeted by the US, at the airport in Iraq on January 3, for allegedly masterminding attacks by Iran-aligned militias on US forces in the Middle East.
