Scores of Erbil residents rallied outside of the UN offices on Tuesday to denounce the Iraqi forces' capture of the Kurdish-held city of Kirkuk. Demonstrators presented a memorandum to the UN, calling on the international community to support the Peshmerga forces and demand an end to the advance of Iraqi forces in Northern Iraq. On Monday, Iraqi government forces and 'al-Hashd al-Sha'abi', also... Еще known as the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), entered Kirkuk, reportedly seizing several neighbourhoods. Tensions between Baghdad and Iraqi Kurdistan have been brewing since Iraqi Kurds overwhelmingly voted for secession in a September 25 referendum that Baghdad rejected as illegal. Kurdish Peshmerga forces took control of oil-rich Kirkuk after the Iraqi army fled a major offensive by the Islamic State in 2014.
