The remains of 48 Kuwaiti prisoners of war killed during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in 1990 were returned to their country in a ceremony held at the Iraq-Kuwait border, on Thursday.
Officials from the two neighbouring countries met at the Safwan border crossing southwest of Basra province, where the handover took place. Boxes wrapped with the Kuwaiti flag where then handed to the Kuwaiti... Еще representatives.
The remains, which will undergo DNA tests to be fully identified, were recently found in mass graves in Iraq.
An Iraqi military official attending the ceremony expressed his country's commitment to finding all the missing bodies of Kuwaiti nationals.
It appears that the soldiers were taken prisoner by former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's forces during their invasion of the country, before being executed in the desert of Samawah.
