Iraq: At least 29 protesters killed in Nassiriya clashes — reports

The running battles between anti-government protesters and security forces continued in Nassiriya on Thursday, with at least 29 protesters killed, according to reports. The clashes followed torching of an Iranian consulate in Najaf the day before. Footage shows protesters running and throwing rocks. The total number of killed protesters is reportedly 45, including those killed in Najaf and Baghdad clashes. Iraq has been gripped by anti-government protests since October, when demonstrators hit the streets, denouncing high levels of unemployment, widespread corruption and a lack of basic service. More than 350 people have reportedly been killed since the beginning of the protests.
