Iran: 'Who are you to decide for Iran?' — Rouhani rails at US demands

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani lambasted the US for its series of demands for Tehran to comply with or else face the «strongest sanctions» in history, as he spoke from Tehran on Monday. «Who are you to decide for Iran and the world?» Rouhani asked. Earlier in the day, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had detailed a list of 12 «basic requirements,» according to which Iran must «withdraw all... Еще forces from Syria» and «end support for Taliban in Afghanistan» and stop «enrichment of uranium.» «It is in no way acceptable that a man who had been working in a spy centre for years and now has become US's Secretary of State start saying strange things, start telling Iran and other countries what to do,» Rouhani said, referring to Pompeo's post as CIA director before his appointment as Secretary of State. The Iranian President added: «This is ridiculous and a joke.» The US has withdrawn from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (the JCPOA — Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), under which Iran stopped producing enriched uranium and handed over the majority of its stockpile in return for the lifting of sanctions. The remaining participants — Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China — are meanwhile exploring ways of keeping the deal alive.
